The Swiss rail network is to be gradually expanded on a rolling basis. In 2019, Parliament approved CHF 12.89 billion for the current package – the 2035 Rail Expansion Step (ES 2035). This will enable expansion of long-distance and regional rail networks and services, in line with the rapidly growing demand. The budget also allows for expansion of private rail networks and freight traffic.
