International coordination

Many public transport routes operate across national borders. This requires close cooperation with our neighbours. International coordination and cross-border cooperation are therefore important tasks for the FOT.

As a small country in the heart of Europe, it is crucial that Switzerland coordinate these various forms of transport and its transport policy with both the EU and its neighbours. This enables it to safeguard its interests and provide an efficient transport system.

The FOT represents Switzerland’s transport policy interests and coordinates international road and rail traffic (‘overland transport’). It draws up and implements international agreements and arrangements, and represents Switzerland in various international bodies.
