Procuring and controlling large-scale railway projects
We represent the Confederation as purchaser of the large-scale rail infrastructure projects, in particular the following expansion programmes: Rail 2000, the New Rail Link through the Alps (NRLA), ZEB (Zukünftige Entwicklung Bahninfrastruktur - future development of rail infrastructure), STEP phase of expansion to 2025 (AS 25), the connection of Switzerland to the European high-speed network, and noise abatement of railways. These are supplemented by other projects costing billions of Swiss francs, such as DML Zurich and CEVA Geneva.
We are the authority in charge of project control, overseeing the phases of execution, projection and construction in these projects, right up to the final accounting. Project control also includes continuous monitoring of costs, adherence to deadlines, and the quality of work; as well as preparing decisions about modifying a project. Our goal is a targeted project coordinated between contractor, railway companies, cantons and the Confederation. We report regularly to the Federal Council and to parliament on the state of the projects, and also publish annual progress reports.
