Connection to the European high-speed network

TGV-Lyria in Zürich

For a better connection to the European high-speed network, the Confederation is investing about CHF 1.1 billion in the railway network up to the end of 2020. Where it would be useful and in Switzerland’s interests, the Confederation also contributes to funding extensions in neighbouring countries. This shortens journey times between Switzerland and cities such as Paris, Lyon, Munich, Ulm and Stuttgart, sometimes significantly. For example, this programme has enabled Paris to be reached half an hour faster from Basel since 2011. The journey time to Munich will be shortened by about an hour by 2020.
