Yet last year in Switzerland there were 195 incidents on level crossings, with 5 fatalities. In Europe every year, approx. 600 people die in accidents on level crossings. The European Level Crossing Forum (ELCF) has therefore launched the «European Awareness Day on level crossings».

Switzerland would like to discuss the techniques and ideas it has developed on public transportation with other nations. The traveling exhibit The Challenge of Sustainable Transportation for the 21st Century: The Prospects for Switzerland and the U.S. fosters bilateral dialogue. It presents information on policies, incentives, infrastructure, land use planning, and timetables.
